NFV++: When the Networks will be Truly Software-Defined

Emerging Technologies Track

Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) has promised to catapult monolithic, “big-iron”-centric 2G/3G/4G and wireline telco networks to modern, virtualized and software-defined infrastructure, enabling operators to complete in a rapidly evolving market where disruption by-innovation has become the norm. Thus far, the NFV architecture, protocols, APIs and tool sets have been developed with an exclusive telco focus. But NFV should be the ultimate destination for the enterprise, telco and private/home network environments. In this presentation, we will look into the gaps that we need to bridge in order to realize the truly software-defined networks (SDN) vision, and we shall discuss the incredible possibilities and opportunities that can be delivered in the emerging worlds of 5G and IoT, once we deliver on the SDN promise.
